Cheers Mark, one Planet X now struck off the list. Funny how something didn't feel quite right that was preventing the 'Order now' button from being hit. Shame the Boardman CX pro isn't available in this country what with it's super smoothed welding. Looks very smart.
BTW, have you seen the colour of the Mares - it's bright orange affraid   Lechef would do his nut if a Bayeux rider adorned such a beast.

Off to chat with Laurence.............scratch

The mud clearances on the Planet X On One Carbon cross are rubbish - I know a chap who has one who spent most of his first race with the thing upside down digging the mud out.

First point of call should always be a Kinesis I reckon. The Tri Store have some good deals on Focus Mares (you get a good spec for your money) and Cannondale: http://www.thetristore.com/bikes/cyclocross.aspx

Thanks for the advise below by the way. It isn't something that I am taking lightly and I have been speaking with some people I know who have done it. I'm sorting out a coaching plan with Dan Henchy of PB Science which will see me through alright I reckon.

No mate. Currently have a couple of bikes I'm exploring like the Specialised Crux (both alu and carbon) and a Planet X xls (carbon) - amazing price.  Trying to keep in mind what Mitch recommends which shouldn't be ignored. study  But thanks for the offer anyhow. Smile

Yup I do, it's not the best and there are several parts I'd like to change but its ok for the time being. It's also a bit big for me too at 54 which isn't ideal but it was cheap and a good starter. Are you wanting to borrow it as I won't have any use for it from September to March next year?

Just a thought Shane, have you got yourself a cx bike now?  Mountain bikes are no longer allowed to do 3 Peaks

Wow - what an event and I've often pondered to do it. I remember the cycling weekly mag so well with front cover pics of  Barry Stone and rubber lips Tim Gould winning time after time. If I ever have a crack at this cyclo-cross lark, then definitely a must-do event.
Let me warn you now. It's no walk in the park. This is a Northern race most brutal even in the best of weather conditions. You'll need a weekend up there a month before to get a taster and feel for the environment. There is nowhere in the South that replicates or gets even close to something like Whernside and Pen-y-Ghent.

Good luck to ya...........

Unfortunately not, I'm road racing in Kirdford that I had to enter ages ago just to secure a place. Had I know there was a clash at the time though. I'm not very structured at the mo as got a lot on so missed putting a proper calendar together.

Thanks Shane - had to go through an application and ballot process before receiving an "invitation" for a place.

Are you coming out on Sunday? http://velomorpha.com/2013/06/12/the-vanity-of-vanities-ucx-up-the-ring/
